New Users
Feel free to register and start using gplocumdirect.co.uk - the site is a nationwide version of
the website used in Cornwall allowing GP Locums / Sessional GP's to publish their availability to locum online, helping GP surgeries to find cost effective locums fast. The site will also help you to stay in touch with others locums in your area and nationally. gplocumdirect.co.uk is not a locum agency - it is simply a website enabling communication between GP surgeries and GP locums is run by myself, Dr Jan du Plessis, General Practitioner in Cornwall.
Registered Locums
Locums currently using cornwallgp.co.uk has been transferred to the new website. This includes all their current published availability.
Locums will need to request a password via email before being able to log in to the new site. If you have any problem please email support@gplocumdirect.co.uk
GP Surgeries / Practice Managers
GP surgeries now have to register FREE to access gplocumdirect.co.uk - this is to provide better security on the site and also bring new features to both locums and surgeries.
You will get instant accesss when you register, click on the [Practice Login | Sign Up] link. Select Sign Up, complete the form and you will be registered and able to view locum availability as before. It is important to provide an email address to retrieve lost passwords.
GP Surgeries can sign up for multiple accounts. (Different users within the surgery) - Please note usernames are unique so if you are unable to sign up with a username try a alternative username.
Once logged in the first thing you need to do is set your County - you will be directed to this page. A great new feature is the ability to see who is online, and you can send that person an instant message by clicking on their name.
Text messaging is by far the quickest, most time and cost effective method to communicate.
gplocumdirect.co.uk

text area to send instant messages to the locum's mobile phone.

The cost to your practice is 17p per message. There is no need to pay in advance, you will receive and invoice via email. Payment can be made by cheque or Debit or Credit Card using a secure server.
The SMS link gives you access to all the messages you have sent, including delivery

Cornwall Health for Homeless Posted: 17 March 2007
I am writing on behalf of the Cornwall Health for Homeless team to see if you would be interested in doing some locum sessions for us.
The team
PCT run
Andy Wing- Practice manager
Chris Trounce- Salaried GP
Kerstin Peters- Gauld- Admin
Norma House- Nurse Practioner
Roya Vaziri- salaried GP
We run clinics over 3 sites in Cornwall- based within charity buildings (Truro, Camborne and Penzance)
The clinic rooms are fully equipped.
We use the EMIS computer system, hence you need to be either familiar with EMIS or willing to come in to be shown how to use the system.
Clients- who are homeless register with us and we provide the GP care.
You will be the only member of the team on site- but there is always a member of the team on another site and at the end of the phone. We like to be contacted with any query and endeavor to provide a supportive environment- including the inclusion in practice meetings to discuss clinical scenarios.
Currently we would be happy to provide an agreed payment to attend the Monday pm team meeting ( In Truro), commencing 2pm onwards- in order to discuss cases seen and for peer support*
You must be happy to work on a site on your own without the familiar 'reception and nurse back up'- this equates to doing immunisations- i.e. im injections, soaking feet that may be need a bit of TLC, taking blood etc
You may also have to register patients onto the computer system if they are new to the practice- again we will provide appropriate training.
The clients names are placed on a list by various staff that work in the building.
The clinics are run as drop in- hence all names on the list prior to 12 pm ( for morning session) or 3 30pm ( afternoon session) are to be seen. IE no further clients are added to the list after these times.
Clinics run 9;45 - 13:00 and 13:45 to 17:00
If employed for one day- it will mean that most likely your clinics will be on 2 different sites.
Numbers seen vary from zero to 10 - on average 4-6 over the 3 hour period.
Clients and all staff concerned are aware you take the time you need for each client.
This isn’t your rush thru 20 patients in a clinic scenario.
You need to be sympathetic and be nosey into psychosocial situation.
You will not be expected to perform substitute prescriptions unless trained and pre agreed.
At all times there will be a member of the clinical team (Chris, Norma or I) at the end of telephone for advice etc.
I know we have received some CVs already- so if you are interested please contact me ( and send CV if already haven’t done so)and let me know if you are available for any of the below dates.
Please let us know ASAP- since we need to ensure we let our regular locum know what the situation is, and also we could get in some training for EMIS if we need to.
